Here's My Federal Jobs Program

Legalize Marijuana.  It won't create nearly as many jobs as we need, but it's a start. It will also save some scarce law enforcement resources that are now directed toward busting family farm operations and provide a new source of revenue for our cash-strapped state and federal governments.  It will also allow profits from Wisconsin growing operations to be reinvested in Wisconsin rather than siphoned off by Mexican drug cartels.

If Tammy Baldwin wants to make a legislative splash in Congress prior to next year's Senate race, she should be introducing legislation (or at least signing onto something from Barney Frank or Ron Paul) that would do away with federal marijuana prohibition.

No jobs, but nobody will care?

I agree that criminalizing marijuana is a waste of resources, but I just don't see this being a REAL jobs solution. It adds to an already significant substance abuse problem in this country (alcohol) and may create some jobs, but not enough to matter. Other points? sure. Jobs? Meh.

There are already MANY jobs because of this industry (It is the #1 cash-crop in several states.) Re-legalizing this plant will bring those workers out of the underground community as well as create many new ones.

Unfortunately, our current President has increased the War on Drugs (both in scope of mission and amount of budget) to unprecedented levels. Nothing will change until we get a change in the White House.

Perhaps you have not heard that marijuana is an extremely dangerous and highly addictive gateway drug, which nearly always leads to heroin addiction and death. :)
